The Rwandan embassy in Morocco was inaugurated during a ceremony on Wednesday in Rabat. This new embassy was inaugurated by Rwandan Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Olivier Nduhungirehe and Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita. The opening of this embassy, which comes after that of Morocco in Kigali in April 2017, is important for both countries since it is part of the strengthening of bilateral relations especially after the visit of King Mohammed VI in Kigali in October 2016, said Nduhungirehe, after the inauguration ceremony. After recalling that this visit was marked by the signing of 23 agreements, followed by twelve other agreements in various areas as agriculture, industry and pharmacy, the Rwandan official stressed that this embassy will help promote the exchange of visits between the peoples of the two countries. It will also help promote business visits, while allowing Moroccan investors to learn more about the business climate in Rwanda. For his part, Bourita affirmed that the opening of this embassy confirms the positive dynamic of bilateral relations, noting that since the King's historic visit in Kigali, the two countries have been able to establish a solid partnership with the signing of more than 34 cooperation agreements, the regular exchange of visits and coordination in regional and international forums. «Today we are in a very promising phase of bilateral relations», he noted, adding that the Sovereign and President Paul Kagame share the same vision with regard to South-South partnership, African integration and the AU. The opening of this embassy shows the status of Rabat as a top regional diplomatic platform, noted Bourita, stressing that, today, 106 foreign embassies are open in the capital of the Kingdom in addition to regional and international organizations. The city of Rabat is in the process of becoming the first diplomatic capital of North Africa and West Africa, he said, noting that other embassies will be open soon including that of Philippines.
