Eighteen members of the European Parliament, eighteen others from national legislative assemblies, dozens of trade unionists, dozens of academics and many public figures including Noam Chomsky, Ken Loach and Arundhati Roy have signed a call for international solidarity to demand the release of Hirak detainees, said a communiqué sent on Saturday to Yabiladi. The petition was also supported by the Paris section of the AMDH (Moroccan human rights association), who included the full list of signatories on their website. Commemorating the death of Mohcine Fikri, a fishmonger who was crushed inside a garbage truck when trying to retrieve his confiscated goods, the call was «launched by the Committee for solidarity with Hirak political prisoners based in Casablanca», indicates the same source. The committee which called earlier this week people on social media to join a demonstration in Al Hoceima later banned by local authorities, demand the liberation of «the political prisoners» and the defense of democratic rights in Morocco, concludes the same statement.
