On Friday afternoon, Saint-Michel Square in the heart of the Latin Quarter was awash in Moroccan colors to mark the start of a weeklong celebration of culture. Organized by the Consulate General of Morocco in Paris and the Town Hall of the 6th arrondissement, the Moroccan Cultural Days—running until April 13—have transformed this iconic location into a lively Moroccan village. Beneath red and green flags, visitors are welcomed into a world of traditional crafts, the aromas of spices, signature Moroccan dishes, and vibrant music. Moroccan Ambassador to France Samira Sitail officially inaugurated the event alongside Consul General Nada Bakkali Hassani and 6th arrondissement Mayor Jean-Pierre Lecoq. «I am here with great pride. There's a wonderful atmosphere in the heart of the Latin Quarter, in Saint-Michel Square, with thousands of Moroccans gathered to celebrate their identity, their Moroccan roots, their diversity, and the Franco-Moroccan relationship», Samira Sitail, Moroccan Ambassador to France, said. Mayor Lecoq also expressed his enthusiasm, saying he was «very happy to welcome this beautiful Moroccan village to Saint-Michel Square—a symbol of the long-standing friendship between France and Morocco, a friendship that today is experiencing a new momentum». He also announced the upcoming opening of a Moroccan Cultural Center nearby, on Boulevard Saint-Michel. For her part, Consul General Bakkali Hassani highlighted that the event aims to showcase «Moroccan culture and the richness of our national heritage» in one of Paris's most iconic tourist destinations. Associations from Morocco are also taking part in the celebration, which shines a spotlight on a diverse and vibrant cultural legacy: zellige, carpets, jewelry, and other ancestral crafts. Bathed in spring sunshine, the event is drawing large crowds—both Moroccan and French alike.
