Morocco's Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita reaffirmed on Tuesday in Cairo King Mohammed VI's unwavering support for all initiatives aimed at enabling the Palestinian people to achieve their legitimate rights. Speaking on the sidelines of the Extraordinary Arab Summit on Palestine, Bourita emphasized that the King's stance on the Palestinian issue has always been clear and consistent, prioritizing national unity while supporting all efforts that empower the Palestinian people to realize their rights. He noted that the summit comes at a critical and challenging time, marked by ongoing destruction and loss of life due to Israeli aggression in Gaza for nearly a year and a half. Despite the announcement of a ceasefire, the situation remains fragile, with ongoing violations and numerous obstacles. Bourita pointed out that the summit is also taking place amid various proposals and initiatives regarding Gaza's future, which have generated uncertainty and heightened tensions in the region. Regarding these discussions, he reaffirmed Morocco's stance, emphasizing that Gaza, like the West Bank, is an integral part of Palestinian territory, and that the Palestinian people alone have the right to determine its future. «Since Gaza is Palestinian territory, only the Palestinian people and the Palestinian Authority have the right to decide its future and how to manage it», Bourita stated. However, before reaching the reconstruction phase, he stressed the need to stabilize the ceasefire, ensure humanitarian aid reaches Gaza, and move toward a permanent cessation of hostilities. He welcomed the Cairo Declaration, the final communiqué of the summit, which included a strong acknowledgment of the role of the Al-Quds Committee, as well as recognition of the work of Bait Mal Al-Quds Al-Sharif. The minister also noted that the summit adopted a reconstruction plan for Gaza, marking the beginning of a concrete action phase. «The next step is to gain international support for the plan, promote it, and ensure it is accompanied by a political vision», he said. Bourita praised Egypt's role in preparing the plan but emphasized that efforts must now focus on creating a political horizon, convincing international and Palestinian stakeholders, overcoming existing obstacles, and fostering Palestinian unity. He stressed that a lasting political solution remains essential, reiterating Morocco's commitment to a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state.
