During the 40th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), held from the 25th of February to the 22nd of March, South Africa launched a campaign to defend the Polisario. On Tuesday, February the 26th, the South African Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Luwellyn Tyrone Landers met with a delegation from the Front led by the movement's representative in Algerian, Abdelkader Taleb Oumar. The two parties discussed means to prepare for the solidarity conference on Western Sahara, scheduled for the 25th and 26th of March end co-chaired by Namibia and South Africa on the sidelines of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). The conference is expected to take place in South Africa and will be «demonstrating (South Africa's) ongoing commitment to the struggle of the Saharawi people». On Wednesday, Landers chaired a conference in Geneva on the «European Union and the decolonization of Western Sahara». The meeting was attended by Namibian Minister of Justice Sackeus Shangala. For the record, the South African President Cyril Ramaphosa joined, in February, in Addis Ababa the African Union's presidential troika in charge of monitoring the Western Sahara conflict.
