For the American fact tank Pew Research, most of the U.S. Muslims observe the month of Ramadan. Although they see religion in different ways, Muslims in the North American country prefer to fast during the holy month. Almost the majority of U.S. Muslims observe the month of Ramadan, reveals American fact tank Pew Research in an article published Tuesday. To put it in other words, eight out of ten American Muslims say that they fast during the holy month. For Pew Research, not all of those who observe Ramadan care much about praying five times a day and attending a mosque once a week. Talking numbers, the not-for-profit organization explains that 80% of U.S. Muslims said they fast Ramadan while 20% said no. Most precisely, 77% of Muslim men in the North American country prefer to observe the Hijri month. For American Muslim women, the percentage is slightly bigger, reaching 82%. Fasting Ramadan is no difference when it comes to Muslims born on the American soil and others coming from foreign countries. 79% of U.S. born Muslims fast while 80% of the ones born abroad do the same thing. Perceiving religion diffrently Although Muslims in the United States perceive religion in different and sometimes contradictory ways, fasting remains respectively one of their annual practices. According to Pew Research, 92% of U.S. Muslims who said, in a previous survey, that religion is «very important» observe Ramadan. Meanwhile, 65% of the American Muslims who stated that religion is «somewhat important» fast during the holy month. Surprisingly, 41% of Muslims in the U.S. who declared before that religion is «not too/ not at all important» observe Ramadan by fasting during daylight hours. This trend is further explained by the American fact tank, insisting that although 42% of Muslims in the U.S. pray five times a day and only 43% of them attend mosques weekly, Ramadan remains the second-most-observed of Islam's Five Pillars. Furthermore, a Pew research report made public in 2012 proves that most of the 39 surveyed countries with «sizable Muslim populations more than nine-in-ten Muslims fast, making it the second-most-observed of Islam's Five Pillars, behind only the shahada, the affirmation of belief in God and the Prophet Muhammad». For the record, several European and Muslim countries are to observe the month of Ramadan on Thursday, 17th of May, such as France, Belgium, Algeria, UK, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
