A Royal Armed Forces delegation, led by Brigadier General Abdelghani Mouhib from the General Inspection of the FAR, was received on Monday, February 17, 2025, at the Malian Ministry of Defense and Veterans. This is the first meeting of the Mali-Morocco Joint Military Commission. For three days, this meeting, co-chaired by Brigadier General Mahamadou Massaoulé Samaké, strategic advisor to the General Staff of the Malian Armed Forces, and his Moroccan counterpart, aimed to strengthen military cooperation between the two countries, particularly in terms of training and equipment. The Chief of the General Staff of the Malian Armed Forces, Major General Oumar Diarra, welcomed this initiative, which he considers in line with the political vision of the President of the Transition. He encouraged both delegations to work in a spirit of courtesy and collaboration for the mutual benefit of the two nations. For his part, Brigadier General Abdelghani Mouhib praised the commitment of the authorities of both countries in favor of a strengthened military partnership. He recalled the historical ties that unite Morocco and Mali, highlighting the kingdom's commitment to supporting the Sahel region in the face of security challenges. This meeting marks a new stage in military cooperation between Rabat and Bamako and testifies to the diplomatic rapprochement in recent years, while Mali and Algeria entered a deep diplomatic crisis in 2023. As a reminder, under the influence of Algiers, Bamako recognized the «Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR)» as early as 1980.
