Minister of Transport and Logistics Abdessamad Kayouh announced, Tuesday in Rabat, a substantial investment plan of 42 billion dirhams for airport expansion projects by 2030. During a presentation to the Infrastructure, Energy, Mining, Environment, and Sustainable Development Commission at the House of Representatives, he emphasized that this initiative is part of a strategic vision aimed at enhancing Casablanca airport's role as a pivotal gateway connecting Morocco to the world. The plan includes expanding the Royal Air Maroc fleet and supporting the rapid growth in air traffic by modernizing and extending several major Moroccan airports. It also focuses on strengthening domestic transport by encouraging the opening of new routes to improve connectivity to remote areas. Key projects highlighted by the Minister include upgrading Casablanca airport to accommodate 44 million passengers annually, constructing a new terminal at Rabat-Salé airport with a capacity for 4 million passengers per year, and enhancing other major airports such as those in Tangier, Marrakech, Fez, Tetouan, and Agadir to boost their capacities. Members of the parliamentary committee commended the Ministry's efforts in executing programs and projects aimed at advancing the transport sector, especially air transport. They noted that these initiatives reflect the government's strong commitment to promoting the sector and enhancing its performance, viewing it as a crucial driver for economic, social, and human development. The parliamentarians also advocated for comprehensive reforms in the transport ecosystem, particularly in legislative and organizational aspects, to align with the anticipated reforms. They emphasized the importance of fostering competitiveness and addressing challenges to ensure the success of major sporting events planned in Morocco. Additionally, they highlighted the necessity of strengthening domestic flights, especially those connecting Morocco's central provinces with the southern regions, and called for the rehabilitation of airports in these provinces to match the standards of the main airports.
