The death toll in the Valencia floods among the Moroccan community has risen to eight, after a new body was found on Thursday, December 12. The body belongs to a 59-year-old man from northern Morocco who was discovered in a garbage dump as a result of the floods. The search is still ongoing for the body of another Moroccan woman, the Kingdom's Consul General in Valencia, Said Idrissi Bouzidi, told Yabiladi on Monday. The consul added that procedures are underway to repatriate the victim's body to Morocco for burial. Meanwhile, the residents of Valencia are facing significant challenges in returning to normal life. While many residents have not yet been able to return to their homes, some have managed to reopen their shops, according to the consul. Moroccan rescue teams sent to Valencia are still working on the ground. «They have finished cleaning the waterways and have now moved on to clearing garages of mud and flood debris», explained the diplomat. The Moroccan relief teams, consisting of 80 personnel equipped with 25 fire trucks and maintenance and suction equipment, have been working since November 13 in cooperation with the Spanish authorities to mitigate the impact of the floods. The death toll from the floods, the worst in Spain in decades, has risen to 224 people.
