Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita welcomed a delegation of U.S. senators in Rabat on Monday, led by Republican Jerry Moran, according to reports from Moroccan diplomatic sources. In a statement to MAP, Moran emphasized the importance of strong U.S.-Morocco relations, describing the kingdom as a «provider» of stability and peace globally. He expressed the United States' «gratitude» for Morocco's efforts to foster «consensus and bring people together» on the international stage. Moran also advocated for strengthening bilateral ties to «export Morocco's model of stability to the rest of the world, particularly Africa», the same source added. Senator Jerry Moran authored a letter in March 2022, co-signed by 82 other lawmakers (both Democrats and Republicans), urging the Biden administration to suspend the 20% increase in import duties on Moroccan fertilizers. In November 2023, Moran persuaded 35 senators and congressmen to send another letter to the White House, advocating for reduced taxes on phosphate fertilizers from Morocco.
