Moroccans stranded abroad because of the coronavirus crisis held sit-ins, Monday, in front of Morocco's consulates and embassies in several countries. Photos and videos sent to Yabiladi show dozens of Moroccans gathered in front of Morocco's diplomatic representations abroad to ask for their urgent repatriation. In Spain, a group of Moroccans stood in front of the Moroccan consulate in Algeciras, urging the government to speed up their repatriation operation. In France, several sit-ins were held in front of the kingdom's consulates, with Moroccans chanting slogans to denounce their situation. In Paris, the French police imposed a fine of 135 euros on those who attended the sit-in in front of the Moroccan embassy. Sit-ins also took place in front of the kingdom's consulate general in the Algerian city of Oran and in Istanbul. For the record, the head of government had declared, during a television interview Thursday, that the number of Moroccans stranded abroad who had registered with Moroccan consulates amounts to nearly 28,000. Saadeddine El Othmani added that these Moroccans will be repatriated when the borders, closed due to the pandemic of the new coronavirus, are reopened.
