The prefectural service of the judicial police of Tangier opened, Monday under the supervision of the competent prosecutor's office, a judicial investigation to arrest all perpetrators and accomplices involved in an attempt to traffic 16.2 tons of chira, foiled at the Tangier-Med port. In a statement, the national police (DGSN) reported that a joint security operation between elements of national Security and customs at the Tangier-Med port had resulted in the seizure of large quantities of drugs concealed in wooden crates on board a trailer connected to a transport truck registered in Morocco and driven by a 35-year-old Moroccan national. The driver has been placed in police custody to complete the judicial investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor's office, the statement stressed, adding that research and investigations are under way to arrest all persons involved in this criminal network and determine its possible ramifications in Morocco and Europe, as well as its alleged links with cross-border criminal networks. This case is part of the security services' relentless efforts to strengthen border control measures and combat all forms of international trafficking in drugs and psychotropic substances, the DGSN concluded.
