A coordinated security operation between National Police and Customs Services, conducted Monday morning in the Guergarate post (south of Dakhla), helped to foil an attempt to smuggle 5 tons and 996 kilograms of chira, on board an international transport truck bound for an African country. A statement from the National Police (DGSN) said that the border control operations enabled to arrest the truck driver along with two of his couriers after the search inside the engine led to discovering 5 tons and 996 kilograms of chira, carefully concealed in a cargo of vegetables for export to an African country. The statement said that the security services with jurisdiction have opened a judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent prosecutor's office in order to shed light on the circumstances and ramifications of this case, as well as on the possible links of this criminal network nationally and internationally. The foiling of this attempt to smuggle a large quantity of drugs is part of efforts by the national security services to fight the international trafficking of drug and psychotropic substance.
