The Spanish police have recommended the expulsion of Moroccan Imam, Mohamed Attaouil, reports online newspaper El Nacional. Revealed by TV3, this exceptional measure might be implemented as the man in question «is considered as a threat to national security». According to El Confidencial, the police's report states that «Attaouil's behavior is a real and sufficiently serious threat to national security». The Imam of the Salt mosque in Girona, is also accused of maintaining «links with the Society of the Revival of Islamic Heritage (SRIH)», an NGO based in Kuwait, and since «2002, he was part of the list of individuals, groups and entities associated with Al Qaeda and ISIS». Moreover, the expulsion should be administrative and not criminal. Attaouil's lawyer appealed, denouncing the attempt «to expel someone who has never been convicted». Speaking to La Sexta, he criticized the decision, arguing that his client is not a criminal. Spain's Interior of Ministry is currently examining the expulsion of Imam Mohamed Attaouil, who is also vice-president of the Union of Islamic Communities in Catalonia.
