French criminal defense lawyer Eric Dupond-Moretti has reportedly given up on defending Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred. On Thursday, French-language newspaper Le 360 wrote that Dupond-Moretti has «dropped the case» and is no longer representing the Pop star, who is currently facing rape charges in France. The lawyer confirmed the information when contacted by the Moroccan newspaper, without giving details on the reasons behind his decision. The same source recalls that Eric Dupond-Moretti had been Lamjarred's lawyer since 2016, after King Mohammed VI decided to pay for the singer's court fees, as announced by the Royal Cabinet on October 31st, 2016. In April 2017, Dupond-Moretti appeared in a video, shouting at the singer's fans in the Paris Court of Appeal. «You do not understand ! You are not helping him like that», he said. Jean-Marc Fédida is the only lawyer now to defend the singer. He refused to comment on the information revealed today by Le 360. «I have nothing to say to you. Goodbye», he replied. For the record, 33-year-old Saad Lamjarred is again facing «rape» charges in France. He was placed on Tuesday under judicial supervision, after a French woman filed a complaint against him on Sunday, 26th.
