The Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders was questioned at the Belgian Federal Parliament following a statement made by the Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration, Theo Francken on human rights in Morocco. In a question addressed to Didier Reynders, Belgian MP Gwenaëlle Grovonius stressed that the declaration of Theo Francken «is not the first controversial statement he makes against Morocco and its nationals that add value to the Belgian society». She argued saying that «it is not logic to compare a sister country and a partner to other nations that do not respect human rights». The Belgian MP wondered if the Minister of Foreign Affairs would «distance himself and condemn the serious insinuations of Theo Francken with regard to Morocco». For the record, the Moroccan Embassy in Brussels protested strongly against the statement of Theo Francken who said in an interview conducted by a Belgian media platform last Saturday that Morocco is among «countries where human rights are not respected». In a final statement to the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Kingdom's embassy in Brussles stated that Mr Francken's remarks «are politically unacceptable and totally inappropriate».
