Being part again of the African Union has been of great benefits to the Moroccan Kingdom. In Addis Ababa, the Moroccan delegation managed to impose its stance on other AU members. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation was also pleased by the way things were maintained. Morocco is pleased with its first participation in an African Union summit, as it managed to defend its stance and position on the Western Sahara dispute. Satisfied by the meeting's positive results, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Nasser Bourita, expressed his contentment last night in Addis Ababa during a press briefing. Nasser Bourita insisted that the resolution adopted regarding the matter «is an evolution» because «it recognizes the leadership of the UN». «The manoeuvres, the dithering have been discarded. Today, we have positions that go in the right direction», he said. The Minister also mentioned the proposal suggested to send the Commission of human rights and peoples. «There is a large majority of countries that strongly reject it, and therefore the report has merely reflected this divergence of positions and called for constructive dialogue,» he said. Henceforth «all terms, all provocative terminology, 'occupied territories', and 'violation of human rights' have been cleaned today of these draft resolutions,» added Bourita. Recognizing the UN leadership The UN summit was dedicated to acknowledging the decisive role of the UN in resolving territorial dispute. Insisting on this rejoiced Morocco which has always refused to allow the regional organization; namely the African Union, to intervene to the Western Sahara conflict. The resolution «recognizes the leadership of the UN» and stresses that «the case is managed in New York,» said Bourita. He added that the Conference of Heads of State invited the AU President-in-Office Alpha Condé and African Union Commission President Moussa Faki to provide «appropriate support» to «back the efforts put by the United Nations to reach an agreement on a consensual and final solution for the conflict». The Minister also recalled the opposition of more than twenty AU member countries to the Peace and Security Council' s decision, dominated by Algeria and South Africa, which consists of urging Morocco and the Polisario to «hold direct and serious talks» and to help the political organs of the AU, the Commission and the AU High Representative for the Sahara».
