Moroccan peacekeepers in Central Africa belonging to the Minusca mission were targeted by the Anti-Balaka rebels in a violent attack in Bangasso, the North Africa Post reports. A Moroccan Minusco official told the same source in a press briefing that the armed group opened fire on the Minusco members on the 21st of June located in a camp that hosts more than 200 Muslim civilians. The same source added that the attack was aborted by the peacekeepers. «Violence have flared in the area of Bangasso, about 700km away from the capital Bangi, after the Anti-Balaka rebels perpetrated deadly attacks on Muslim civilians and UN peacekeepers alike», indicated the online newspaper. In May, a Moroccan peacekeeper was killed in an attack performed by the Anti-Baraka group just a few hours after the UN commemorated the death of 5 peacekeepers, 4 Cambodians and one Moroccan. The latter was killed among 4 others on the 8th of May in another attack carried by the same terrorist group. 9 other Moroccan peacekeepers were also injured in the same attack.
