On strike for two months over unpaid salaries, teachers in the Tindouf camps affiliated with the Polisario Front continue their protest amid complete silence from the movement's media. Only a few dissenting voices, such as Said Zarwal—who opposes the current political direction of the Front—have publicly supported their cause. Based in Sweden, Zarwal has criticized the funds allocated to the «Sahrawi Workers' Union» congress, which began on Friday, April 18, with the participation of foreign delegations from Africa, Europe, and South America. Meanwhile, the Polisario leadership remains unresponsive to the demands of the striking teachers, many of whom are also members of this union. The crisis has persisted since the end of March, when the Polisario failed to pay salaries in the education sector. Khatri Adouh, then the «minister» in charge, issued an apology in a letter, citing «fundamental elements» that prevented the Front from honoring its commitments. One week later, Brahim Ghali dismissed Adouh from his position and removed him from the Front's permanent general secretariat. He was replaced by Abdelkader Taleb Omar, the Polisario's representative in Algiers.
