The Port of Huelva has announced the launch of a new direct maritime route connecting it to Morocco's Port of Tanger Med, starting next Sunday. This initiative, in collaboration with Suardiaz Group and Grupo Transonuba (GTO), aims to enhance connectivity between the two ports and facilitate the transportation of seasonal Moroccan workers for Huelva's red fruit harvest. By allowing workers to travel directly from Tanger Med to Huelva—bypassing Algeciras and overland routes—the new service is expected to streamline their journey. Port authorities consider this a crucial step for Huelva's agricultural sector, which relies heavily on Moroccan labor during the strawberry harvest. The route is also set to boost port activity, reinforcing Huelva's role as a key hub for fresh produce trade. According to Spanish media, plans are underway to expand the service in the coming years to include cargo transport and other logistics, further strengthening Huelva's position as a strategic link between Spain and Morocco.
