The draw for the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) has placed the Moroccan national team of local players in Group A. The Atlas Lions will face off against teams from Kenya, Angola, DR Congo, and Zambia. This announcement came after the group phase draw was conducted in Nairobi on Wednesday. Having secured victories in the 2018 and 2020 editions, both held in Morocco, the Atlas Lions are set to play their group matches in Nairobi. Meanwhile, defending champions Senegal find themselves in Group D, where they will compete against Congo, Sudan, and Nigeria. Due to the withdrawal of certain teams from the qualifying round, two spots remain vacant. Additional qualifying tournaments will be arranged to decide which teams will fill these positions. Originally slated for February 1-28 in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, the CHAN has been postponed to August 2025, as announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). CAF's technical and infrastructure experts, including those stationed in the host countries, have requested more time to ensure that the necessary infrastructure and facilities meet the standards required for a successful tournament. CAF stated in a release on Tuesday that the exact start date for CHAN will be announced at a later time. The group compositions are as follows: Group A: Kenya, Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, Zambia Group B: Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic Group C: Uganda, Niger, Guinea, Q2, Q1* Group D: Senegal, Congo, Sudan, Nigeria * Q1 and Q2 denote the teams that will qualify through the additional tournaments preceding the main event.
