A 36-year-old woman from Bangor, Co Down, is currently in critical condition following a serious accident in Marrakech, Morocco. The incident occurred on November 28th, leaving her with severe lung trauma and multiple spinal fractures. According to The Irish News, medical assessment of Emma Eakin continues to be challenging due to language barriers, with initial scans focused on her chest, abdomen, and pelvis. Despite having travel insurance, policy limitations have created significant financial difficulties for the family. The daily hospital costs in Marrakech amount to £1,500, while medical repatriation to Northern Ireland is estimated between £25,000 and £50,000. A fundraising campaign initiated by her best friend, Juls Hanvey, has already gathered over £20,000 within hours of its Wednesday launch. The family has exhausted their financial resources as medical expenses continue to rise. The fundraising campaign aims to reach an initial target of £25,000 to cover both the repatriation costs and ongoing medical expenses, with the possibility of increasing this target based on clinical requirements. Despite comprehensive medical attention in Marrakech, specialists indicate that specialized care in Northern Ireland remains the optimal solution for Eakin's recovery.
