Moroccan international Ilias Akhomach was subjected to racist comments on his social media accounts from FC Barcelona fans over the past two days. The abuse followed a foul he committed against Spanish-Moroccan player Lamine Yamal during the match between the two teams at La Cerámica stadium. In the 91st minute, with the score at 5-1 in favor of Barcelona, Sergi Cardona and Ilias Akhomach made aggressive tackles on Lamine Yamal, resulting in yellow cards. One Catalan fan even wrote, «Go back to Morocco and don't come back again, you are not welcome in Barcelona». Ilias Akhomach, born in Barcelona, has played for Spain at youth levels. After training at Barcelona's academy, he joined Villarreal in 2023 and chose to represent the Moroccan national team internationally. He recently won a bronze medal with the Atlas Cubs at the Olympic Games.
