One of the first exhibitions of Cuban art at an African museum is being held in Morocco, at the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, American news agency Associated Press (AP) reported on Wednesday. The move is part of the museum's efforts to offer visitors a chance to discover foreign artists outside of Europe. «The Moroccan public might know Giacometti, Picasso or impressionists», museum director Abdelaziz El Idrissi told AP. «We've seen them and are looking for other things, too», he added. The Cuba exhibition is showing 44 pieces by Afro-Cuban painter Wifredo Lam. The latter will be honored in 2025 by New York City's Museum of Modern Art. The Morocco show, titled «Cuban Art: On the other side of the Atlantic», also features the work of Cuban artist Jose Angel Toirac for the first time outside Cuba. His work is mostly known for its depictions of former Cuban President Fidel Castro. The Cuban show will be open until June 16, AP concluded.
