Canadian imams delivered a coordinated sermon, Friday, inviting the Muslim community to participate to the Canadian federal election, scheduled for October. According to CBC news, imams at 69 mosques throughout Canada told worshippers that «every ballot counts». «As believers, every single one of us has social responsibilities that our very faith is contingent upon», Imam Faraz Rabbani told worshippers at the Bosnian Cultural Centre in Toronto. The imam insisted that «voting is one of those responsibilities». The coordinated sermon was delivered on Friday, April 19th, in five different provinces and in four languages. «The very basis of religion is that the believer is concerned about maximizing the good for themselves and others, and striving to diminish harm», Rabbani added. The sermon also urged voters to calculate the impact their voices would have on the communities they belong to, the same source concluded.
