While several American celebrities have chosen to speak out against American R&B singer and producer R. Kelly, who is accused of sexual misconduct by several women, Moroccan rapper French Montana had a different opinion. According to American magazine Rap-up, French Montana defended the «controversial» singer and song-writer after his halftime performance at the Los Angeles Rams game. After being asked about his opinion on the R. Kelly scandal, French Montana responded, quoting lyrics from Kelly's song «Bump n' Grind». «He already told you, 'My mind was tellin' me no, and my body is tellin' me yes'», he told American tabloid TMZ, adding : «he warned us». «They don't let nobody have their legendary moments», he told the same source, stressing that R. Kelly's story is similar to the one of Michael Jackson's child sexual abuse accusations. «They did Michael Jackson like that. They did R. Kelly like that. All the greats went down like that», he said, adding : «Let somebody enjoy their legacy, man. Whatever happened, happened, man. He fought in a court of law and won». According to CNN, R. Kelly denied all accusations and his lawyer said that «someone with an agenda has done a hit piece» against him. French Montana, however, backtracked on his support for R. Kelly the same day on Twitter, stating that his «heart is with the victims». French Montana's tweet «I never thought the people I looked up to as a kid, who sang and danced and gave me hope to become a superstar would become drug addicts, child molesters and rapists. I am hoping we as a culture create better leaders. We need them», explained the Moroccan rapper.
