Moroccan student Maryem Amjoun won on Tuesday, 30th of October, the Arab Reading Challenge, held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The 9-year-old girl was awarded during a ceremony, attended by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, and Morocco's Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates at Dubai Opera. According to a communiqué issued by the Moroccan Ministry of National Education and sent to Yabiladi on Tuesday, Maryem Amjoun is a third-grade student who attends the Dakhla primary school in Taounat. The Moroccan girl was also granted 500,000 Emirati dirhams. The same source, indicates that the Arab Reading Challenge is an initiative that aims to «make pupils enjoy reading». The ministry also recalls that 597,434 students representing 2,612 educational institutions took part in the first round and the national qualifiers of the competition which took place on April the 11th, 12th and 13th in Oujda.
