In a communiqué issued Monday, 14th of May, the Polisario Front «expressed its strong condemnation of irresponsible Moroccan actions, based on blatant defamation and systematic lies». The separatist movement's reaction followed the one made public by the Algerian ministry of Foreign Affairs which denounced Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita's accusations, suggesting that the neighboring country has been fueling the Sahara conflict. The Front accused Morocco, in the same press release, of making such accusations to avoid the implementation of the Security Council resolution 2414. «In its deliberate falsification and misleading, seeks to obstruct the efforts of the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Western Sahara and at the same time reveals a clear disregard for the constitutive act and decisions of the African Union», argued the Front. On Sunday, 13th of May, Algerian Foreign Ministry reacted to an interview Moroccan foreign Minister Nasser Bourita conducted with French-language magazine Jeune Afrique. Speaking to the weekly publication, the diplomat seized the opportunity to accuse Algeria of providing support for the Polisario Front. «Today, Algeria's discourse on the Moroccan Sahara question is one-sided and obtuse: Denying external reality and being convinced of the fact that the Sahara conflict involves only Morocco and the Polisario», stated Bourita.
