Following the hurricanes Harvey and Irma which have hit the southeastern coasts of the United States, notably Texas and Florida, the Moroccan Embassy in Washington, and the Consulate in New York, follow with concern, the situation of Moroccans in the disaster areas. The latter is heavily resided by the Moroccan community, notably in Houston (Texas) and Tampa, Sarasota and Miami (Florida). «According to information gathered on this date, no victim among our nationals has been reported,» said Monday a statement from the Moroccan embassy in Washington. However, the storm affected several Moroccan families, causing considerable material damage. In this context, a communiqué was issued to the members of the Moroccan community inviting them to subscribe to the security directives established by the competent local authorities and requesting them to take consular services. As part of its support and assistance to the community, the Embassy, in permanent contact with representatives of the local community, expresses «its support and full solidarity with the victims, forming a commission to inquire into the situation of our nationals and to collect their complaints». A mobile consulate will also be organized as soon as possible in order to provide close support and help people who have lost their papers to have them reconstituted.
