The 30th edition of the International Book and Publishing Fair (SIEL), scheduled from April 18 to 27, will pay a posthumous tribute to Moroccan writer Driss Chraïbi. According to the organizers, a special area will be dedicated to the works of the author, described as «one of the major figures of Moroccan and world literature». This space will offer the public an opportunity to explore Chraïbi's literary works through an exhibition featuring photos and testimonials, the same source indicates. Driss El Yazami, president of the Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad (CCME), announced last February that the Council's pavilion at the 2025 edition of SIEL will also celebrate the 70th anniversary of the publication of «Les Boucs», the first Moroccan novel dedicated to migration, written by Driss Chraïbi and published in 1955. Born on July 15, 1926, in El Jadida, the late Driss Chraïbi grew up in Casablanca before moving to Paris in 1945. There, he studied chemistry before venturing into literature and journalism. He authored several books and received numerous literary awards, including the Prix Afrique Méditerranée in 1973 for his entire body of work, as well as the Franco-Arab Friendship Award in 1981. He passed away in April 2007 in Drôme, in southeastern France, where he had lived since 1988.
