Following an international call for tenders launched by Morocco's Nador West Med (NWM), a consortium comprising Boluda Towage France—a subsidiary of the world's leading maritime towing company, Boluda Corporación Marítima—and Marsa Maroc has been awarded the license to operate towing and assistance activities at the NWM port for 20 years, starting in the last quarter of 2026. The consortium will establish a joint subsidiary to manage the license and oversee related investments, including the acquisition of a fleet of four tugs with a towing capacity of 80 tons, at a cost of approximately €45 million, according to a press release. The capital of the subsidiary will be shared, with Boluda Towage France holding a 51% stake and Marsa Maroc 49%, the same source noted. This partnership will allow Marsa Maroc to structure its Towing Business Unit, created to capitalize on and develop expertise in this field, with the goal of establishing recognized industry know-how over time. Currently, Marsa Maroc's Towing Business Unit provides maritime services in seven Moroccan ports: Nador, Al Hoceima, Mohammedia, Safi, Agadir, Laayoune, and Dakhla. Marsa Maroc is the national leader in port terminal management, operating 25 terminals across 11 ports, with total traffic exceeding 60 million tons. As part of its new strategic vision, Marsa Maroc aims to strengthen its position in the Mediterranean while establishing itself as an integrated international port, maritime, and logistics partner. Boluda Towage France is a subsidiary of Boluda Corporación Marítima, the global leader in marine services. Boluda Corporación Marítima operates a fleet of over 400 vessels across 50 countries and 100 ports worldwide.
