Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, co-chaired the 14th session of the Moroccan-Saudi Joint Commission on Wednesday, March 5, in Mecca. At the conclusion of the meeting, Riyadh reaffirmed its unwavering support for Morocco's territorial integrity and the Moroccan identity of the Sahara, considering the autonomy initiative as the only viable solution to this regional conflict, MAP reports. Saudi Arabia stressed that any resolution to this dispute must respect Morocco's sovereignty, the same source adds. This reaffirmation of support for Morocco's stance on the Sahara came a day after a meeting in Cairo on Tuesday between Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and his Algerian counterpart, Ahmed Attaf. On the same day, the President of Algeria's Upper House, Salah Goudjil, met with the Saudi ambassador in Algiers. During the joint commission, Saudi Arabia also praised the ongoing efforts of King Mohammed VI, in his capacity as President of the Committee for the Defense of Al-Quds Acharif, to preserve the city's identity and its status as a symbol of tolerance and coexistence among religions. The Kingdom also commended the Sovereign's support for the resistance of the Maqdessis through humanitarian and social projects led by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency, the executive arm of the Al-Quds Committee.
