While visiting Morocco, French Senate President Gérard Larcher was received on Monday, February 24, by the Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch, alongside Mustapha Baitas, Minister Delegate for Relations with Parliament and Government Spokesman, in Rabat. Larcher is scheduled to tour the city of Laâyoune, where he will explore development projects and initiatives in Morocco's southern provinces. The meeting provided an opportunity to reaffirm France's unwavering support for Morocco's position on the Sahara issue, a stance reiterated during French President Emmanuel Macron's state visit to Morocco in October 2024, which established a «strengthened partnership of exception» between the two nations, reads a press release. Akhannouch emphasized that this new momentum in Morocco-France relations, driven by the two Heads of State, has significantly bolstered cooperation across multiple sectors at the bilateral, regional, and international levels. Larcher's visit is expected to further enhance collaboration between the legislative institutions of both countries and solidify the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Morocco and France. The meeting was attended by Christian Cambon, Chairman of the Morocco-France Friendship Group; Vice-Chairs Hervé Marseille and Corinne Feret; Cédric Perrin, Chairman of the Senate's Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Armed Forces Committee; and French Ambassador to Rabat Christophe Lecourtier.
