French Senate President Gérard Larcher called for strengthening a partnership with Morocco focused on Africa during his visit to Rabat on Monday. Speaking at a joint press conference following talks with Morocco's Upper House Speaker, Mohamed Ould Errachid, Larcher emphasized the need to deepen cooperation with Morocco, particularly in an increasingly «uncertain» global context. He stated that the goal of his visit is to write a «new parliamentary chapter» in the evolving relationship between the two countries. In this context, he recalled that French President Emmanuel Macron recently reaffirmed during his state visit to Morocco that «the present and future of the Sahara fall within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty». Larcher also highlighted the 47 joint projects between France and Morocco in key sectors such as energy, infrastructure, transport, and water management, with a particular focus on human capital development. Additionally, he welcomed Ould Errachid's upcoming participation in the 50th session of the French-speaking Parliaments in Paris this July, stressing that Morocco remains a vital partner in interparliamentary cooperation. Accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Christian Cambon, President of the France-Morocco Friendship Group, and Cédric Perrin, President of the Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Armed Forces Committee, Larcher will continue his visit to Morocco until February 26.
