Morocco's Abdellatif Belmokadem has won the Digital Prosperity Award, organized by the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO), during the fourth session of its General Assembly, held on Wednesday at the Dead Sea in Jordan. The award results were announced at a ceremony attended by ministers of innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship, including Morocco's Minister of Digital Transition and Administration Reform, Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, as well as Morocco's Ambassador to Jordan, Fouad Akhrif. Also present were representatives from invited countries, international organizations, observers, and experts in the field of digital economy. Belmokadem, who represented both Morocco and Africa in this prestigious competition, was recognized for his platform islah.city—an innovative digital tool that leverages artificial intelligence to analyze data. Citizens can use the platform to report issues related to infrastructure, street lighting, or environmental concerns, submitting feedback accompanied by photos and general data. The platform then processes this information through another digital feature, which directly forwards it to the relevant authorities to facilitate necessary improvements. The selection process for the award involved three stages, starting with 2,500 participants, before narrowing down to 15 finalists and ultimately selecting one winner for outstanding contributions in digitalization and artificial intelligence. In a statement to MAP, Belmokadem—President of the National Institute for Innovation and Advanced Technology—expressed his pride in receiving the award, calling it a recognition of Morocco's growing role in global digital innovation. «Morocco is working to strengthen its position as a key player in digital innovation by accumulating experience, expertise, and significant achievements in digitalization and artificial intelligence. This includes supporting innovative digital projects, fostering an environment conducive to investment in modern technologies, and encouraging groundbreaking initiatives», he told MAP. This is not the first time Belmokadem has received international recognition. In 2019, he won a United Nations award for his platform Ma'an.com, which integrates artificial intelligence to help young people access job opportunities, training programs, scholarships, and international networking events.
