The Stellantis factory in Kenitra, Morocco, has announced a significant advancement by beginning the production of AGV robots, known as «automated guided vehicles». These autonomous vehicles are utilized on production lines to transport components and enhance internal logistics. This development marks a strategic milestone for the automotive group in North Africa, as reported by «Faro del Vigo». Previously focused on assembling electric microcars and traditional models, the Moroccan factory now joins the ranks of the group's first five facilities to produce these devices internally. At Kenitra, an AGV is assembled every three hours by a dedicated team of 36 operators, with an ambitious annual production target of 1,000 units. «In just four weeks, we have manufactured 90 AGVs, which confirms our ambition to increase production capacity to 60 vehicles per hour», stated Samir Cherfan, Stellantis' chief operating officer for the Middle East and Africa region. This initiative is part of Stellantis' broader development strategy in Morocco, where the company has invested 300 million euros in recent years to boost the factory's capacity. The local production of these robots not only enhances the factory's competitiveness but also showcases Morocco's growing prominence in the global automotive industry. Mohamed Kharbouche, manager of the Kenitra factory, remarked, «This internal production of AGVs illustrates our commitment to innovation and the development of local skills. We are thus strengthening our ability to support the industrial transformation of the sector».
