Ultimately, it rewarded the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for its commitment to the global water and food security agenda. The award, comprising a cheque for 500,000 US dollars, a trophy and a certificate, was presented by Aziz Akhannouch, in the presence of Nizar Baraka and Loïc Fauchon, President of the World Water Council. Established in 2002 at the joint initiative of the World Water Council and the Kingdom of Morocco, this award honors the memory of King Hassan II for his actions in favor of international cooperation and the sustainable management and preservation of water resources. In addition, the opening ceremony of the 10th World Water Forum featured the screening of an institutional film on water in Morocco, recalling the Kingdom's honor of hosting the 1st edition in Marrakech, in 1997.
