Bahrain's Foreign Minister, Abdullatif Bin Rashid Al Zayani, held talks with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, in Rabat on Tuesday, May 7. Al Zayani's visit to Morocco is part of a regional tour he has undertaken over the past few days. A key focus of the discussions was likely preparations for the upcoming Arab summit. Al Zayani delivered invitations to the President of the Libyan Presidential Council and the Algerian President to attend the next ordinary Arab summit, scheduled for May 14-16 in Manama. Relations between Morocco and Bahrain are strong. Manama recognizes Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara and further strengthened bilateral ties by opening a consulate general in Laayoune on December 14, 2020. In a reciprocal gesture of support, Rabat severed diplomatic relations with Iran in 2009 to defend Bahrain's territorial integrity.
