While Moroccans impatiently await a government decision on loosening Covid-19 preventive measures against the new coronavirus, Professor Azeddine Ibrahimi confirmed on Sunday «the stability of the epidemiological situation in Morocco». A stability which was achieved thanks «to several factors including the nighttime curfew during the month of Ramadan», he said in a post on his Facebook page. The director of the biotechnology laboratory of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Rabat and member of the National Scientific Committee for Covid-19 wrote that «the age pyramid in Morocco is an important factor in the current situation». «With mass vaccination, we are on the right track to protect 20% of the population (age groups over 45), who were developing critical cases», he added. Azeddine Ibrahimi stressed the importance of vaccination, recalling that «most people in intensive care rooms and deaths in hospitals are people who have not been vaccinated». Regarding intercity travel, the professor noted that «all countries adopt three types of travel authorization», namely the vaccination certificate, in addition to the authorizations issued by the authorities as well as negative PCR tests of less than 48 hours. «I hope that all the vaccinated people will be authorized to travel without special authorizations», he concluded.
