The German Health Ministry has dismissed claims about the effectiveness of AstraZeneca's Covid-19 vaccine in older people. A press release by the department stressed that «no data suggesting an efficacy of only 8% among people aged over 65», as reported by German media. «At first glance it seems that two things were confused in the reports: around 8% of the subjects in the AstraZeneca effectiveness study were between 56 and 69 years, only 3% to 4% over 70 years. However, this does not indicate efficacy of only 8% among older people», the ministry indicated. The day before, sources within the German government majority, cited by Bild and Handelsblatt, indicated that the Covid-19 vaccine was ineffective (less than 10%) for people over 65. The pharmaceutical company refuted the assertions of the two German media, calling the allegations «totally incorrect». The vaccine producer cites as evidence the study published in scientific journal The Lancet and the authorization, for all ages, granted by the British health authorities. Morocco has just received 2 million doses of the vaccine produced in India by the Serum Institute of India.
