Morocco has recorded 27 new confirmed coronavirus cases, one Covid-19-related death and a new recovery. Casablanca is home to the largest number of confirmed cases, 41 in total. Morocco recorded, Tuesday, 27 new confirmed coronavirus cases, which brought the number of Covid-19 infections in the country to 170, the director of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division at the Health Ministry announced Tuesday. In a press briefing, Mohamed Lyoubi announced that a confirmed coronavirus case has recovered. The announcement brings the number of coronavirus recoveries in Morocco to six. The recovered case is of an 80-year-old woman, who tested positive for the virus in the city of Fkih Ben Saleh. The official also added that the number of coronavirus-related deaths has jumped to five. The deceased Covid-19 patient is a 76-year-old man who came from the Netherlands and who suffered from a chronic illness. The new updates indicate that so far, 42 coronavirus cases have been recorded in the Casablanca-Settat region, 40 in Rabat-Salé-Kenitra, 36 in Fes-Meknes, 22 in Marrakech-Safi, 11 in Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, 7 in the Oriental region, 6 in Souss-Massa, 4 in Beni-Mellal-Khenifra, 1 in Draa-Tafilalet and 1 in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region. 57% of confirmed coronavirus cases came from abroad According to Lyoubi, Casablanca has recorded the highest number of confirmed coronavirus cases, with 41 patients. The city is followed by Rabat (23 cases), Marrakech (22), Meknes (22) and Fes (14). For Meknes, the health official indicated that 15 of the confirmed cases recorded in the city are of a group of people who travelled together to an Arab state. During the same briefing, Lyoubi indicated that 97 (57%) of the confirmed coronavirus cases recorded in Morocco were coming from abroad, while 73 of them were locally-infected (43%). He reported that the largest number of confirmed cases has been recorded last week with 98 infections, adding that between Monday and Tuesday only 37 confirmed infections were reported. As for the state of the Covid-19 patients in Morocco, Lyoubi said that 85% of them are in a stable condition while 15% of them are presenting moderate to mildly severe conditions. According to Lyoubi, 685 people have tested negative for coronavirus after the health authorities suspected that they could have been infected. He also reported that 2,878 people who were in close contact with the confirmed coronavirus cases have been identified and monitored by the sanitary authorities during the last couple of weeks. According to the health official 2,059 of them are still being monitored by the health authorities while 621 others have left the quarantine after they did not show any coronavirus symptoms.
