On Friday, the director of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division at the Health Ministry shared Morocco's plan against the novel coronavirus during a Lower House meeting. The report indicates that the risk of having more imported cases is high. During a meeting at the Lower House, Friday, the director of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division at the Health Ministry presented a detailed report on the measures the ministry has implemented to avoid the spread of the coronavirus. A copy of the report, which Yabiladi had received, reveals that the Health authorities have managed to monitor the condition of fifty citizens with suspected coronavirus symptoms. Only two cases of the ones monitored tested positive for the virus as reported earlier this week. These suspected cases were mainly located in the Casablanca-Settat region, with 17 people, followed by Rabat, Salé and Kenitra with 9 citizens. The other suspected cases were recorded in the Marrakech- Asfi and the Tanger-Al Hoceima-Tetouan region with 6 people each. The report indicates that based on the global situation, there is a high risk to have imported cases, with people travelling to the country from affected areas. The same thing goes for the risk of having people contracting the virus through their contact with imported cases. However, the report conducted by the health authorities, reassures that the risk of having the virus rapidly spread in the country is goes from weak to medium. Three stages for three scenarios To combat that, the Ministry has set up three stages with different preventive measures to implement. The document indicates that the first stage, which consists of having a couple of confirmed cases coming from the infected countries, has as a mission the need of quickly identifying the affected cases and curbing the spread of the virus. The first stage expects the confirmed cases to reach 50 and the suspected ones to stand at 200. The second stage expects the confirmed coronavirus cases to stand at 500 and the suspected ones to reach 2000 ones, with the aim of curbing the spread and decreasing the death toll. The third and the most dangerous stage expects the infected cases to reach 10 000 and has as an objective, curbing the spread, decreasing the number of deaths and ensuring health services. As for the preventive measures currently implemented by the health authorities in Morocco, the Ministry indicated that travelers coming from infected countries are being tested in border crossings and airports. The suspected cases in airports and border crossings are transferred to hospitals for tests, the report read. The ministry's plan to combat the spread of the virus in the Kingdom includes a set of other measures, such as providing devices for health authorities. It also includes a communication plan to inform the public about the developments of the outbreak. For the record, Morocco has announced two confirmed coronavirus cases. The two citizens, a 39-year old man and an 89-year-old woman, have both been to Italy in February. The two patients are currently are being treated in health facilities in Casablanca.
