On Friday, July 5, jailed journalist Taoufik Bouachrine couldn't attend a hearing of his appeal against a previous conviction, due to health issues, Arabic-language newspaper Alyaoum24 reports. The information was also confirmed by his lawyer, who told the same source that his client suffered from an «unbearable stomach ache». The same source indicates that a doctor checked him up and stressed that he is unable to attend the hearing. Bouachrine, who owns newspaper Akhbar Alyaoum, was sentenced to 12 years in prison in November 2018 after he was «found guilty of human trafficking, abuse of power for sexual purposes, rape and attempted rape».
