Several activities planned during the «Dakhla Week», held between the 21st and 28th of July in Torremolinos, a Mediterranean resort town on southern Spain's Costa del Sol, have been canceled, reports online newspaper La Vanguardia. The decision was approved by the city's mayor José Ortiz Garcia, canceling a «fashion show, and musical show, scheduled for on July the 26th, and the closing party planned on the 28th», says the same source. The festivities were cancelled after the regional delegation of the Podemos party submitted a request, denouncing the fact that «Torremolinos city council, governed by the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party, has encouraged the illegal occupation of Morocco». The coordinator of the party in Andalusia, Teresa Rodríguez, said that this decision was made after «the Podemos, the Izquierda Unida coalition, as well as organizations such as the Costa de Sol Sí Se Puede Torremolinos put pressure on the council». For the record, this event, organized with the help of the Moroccan National Office of Tourism (ONMT) and the Moroccan Consulate General in Algeciras, aims to highlight the richness and cultural diversity of the region of Dakhla Oued- Eddahab.
