The Mauritanian Foreign Minister Isselkou Ould Ahmed Izid Bih received, Monday 21st of May, Morocco's ambassador to Nouakchott Hamid Chabar, reports MAP news agency. The meeting «was an opportunity to review the long-lasting diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between the two nations», wrote the same source. Diplomatic relations between the two neighboring countries have been through a cold phase. Rabat keeps an eye on how close President Mohamed Ould Abdelaziz is to the Polisario and Algeria. Moreover, Chabar's meeting with Isselkou Ould Ahmed Izid Bih, comes only twenty-four hours after a Mauritanian parliamentarian delegation attended military parades organized by the Front, on May 20 in Tifariti. For the record, King Mohammed VI appointed Hamid Chabar ambassador to Mauritania in April 2017. Nevertheless, Nouakchott had agreed in October of the same year. The former coordinating governor with MINURSO officially succeeds Abderrahmane Benomar, who died in December 2016.
