The PSA Kenitra plant, a future Moroccan car plant belonging to french car maker PSA Peugeot Citroen, is planning to export vehicles to South America, reports El Periódico de Aragón, quoting Jean-Christophe Quemard Executive Vice-President of Africa- Middle East at Peugeot S.A. In an interview with L'Economiste, the manager stressed the interest the French car manufacturer has for the South American market. «Morocco's plan is really intended to serve the region. We will see later if it is possible to target farther regions. Maybe we'll be going to export cars to South America», he said. «It would be more competitive to export a car, produced locally, to South America from the Kenitra plant than through our factories in Europe. Anyway, the Kenitra plant is fully integrated into the group's industrial system». Jean-Christophe Quemard said that the PSA plant in Kenitra will be operational by the end of 2018 with the objective of producing 90,000 cars in 2019. The project's second phase will include the production of 200,000 vehicles per year. The French group manufactured 3.63 million vehicles that were sold, contributing to an increase of 15.4% over 2016, according to data published yesterday by the company.
