Gabonese President Ali Bongo Odimba paid a surprise visit on Monday (July 24th) to the Museum of Mediterranean Cultures in Tangier, Jeune Afrique said. «This is the first time he has visited this newly renovated museum. He was pleased with the quality of the scenography,» said Mehdi Qotbi, president of the National Museum Foundation (FNM). Accompanied by his wife Sylvia and his younger son, the Gabonese president is currently on holiday in Tangier where he was spotted several times. The Bongo family comes regularly to Morocco where they own a house. King Mohammed VI also travels frequently to Gabon and most precisely Libreville, the capital. The Museum of Mediterranean Cultures, located in the heart of the Tangier Kasbah, was renovated in July 2016 thanks to a public-private partnership in order to make it more attractive. The archaeological and ethnographic collections on display have been redesigned. Since its reopening, it has welcomed more than 46,000 visitors, says Jeune Afrique. As a reminder, in summer 2016, several Arab heads of state have visited Tangier to meet the King of Saudi Arabia, including King Abdullah II of Jordan and the King of Bahrain, Hamad Ben Issa Al Khalifa.
