In 2024, Morocco set a new record for frozen strawberry exports to Japan, reaching 5,972 tons valued at $9.9 million, a 14% increase from 2023, according to East Fruit. This follows a steady rise from 2022, when exports totaled 3,778 tons. Frozen strawberries have been exported to Japan since 1995, with the market becoming a key destination for Moroccan producers from 2015 onward. Over the past decade, exports have grown at a compound annual growth rate of 13.1%. Morocco's market share in Japan's frozen strawberry imports has surged, reaching 16.7% by the end of 2024, surpassing the USA and Chile to become the third-largest supplier, behind Egypt and China. While Morocco also exports smaller quantities of frozen raspberries, its focus on strawberries continues to strengthen its position in Japan, despite a decline in exports to other markets. In addition to Japan, Morocco is increasing exports to European countries and North America, further solidifying its status as a leading global exporter of frozen strawberries.
