Moroccan triathlete Jawad Abdelmoula claimed the men's title at the 2025 Africa Triathlon Championships held on Saturday in Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa. The competition, which took place from April 4 to 6, is organised by the African Triathlon Union. France-born Olympian Abdelmoula finished in first place with a time of 1:47:44. He was followed by fellow Moroccan triathlete Badr Siwane, who crossed the finish line in 1:52:41, and South Africa's Dylan Nortjie, who came in third at 1:53:17. «The race was really good; I really enjoyed the swim, though there were a lot of waves», Abdelmoula told South African newspaper The Herald. «We had a strong swim with Jamie Riddle from South Africa, and then we did a strong ride on the bike as well. During the run, I felt really good and kept on pushing», he said. Abdelmoula, who was crowned African triathlon champion in 2022, described the victory as his «good comeback». «I was very strong in 2021 and 2022, but in 2023 and 2024, I wasn't performing well in triathlon», he admitted. «I had some personal problems. So now, I've changed a lot of things in my routine». «I am very happy with this victory (…) I enjoyed the race because people here in South Africa are very kind and cheerful. There were a lot of people cheering us on during the race», he added. Born in Angers, France, the 31-year-old triathlete has represented Morocco since 2021. Initially a swimmer in his youth, he transitioned to triathlon and found success quickly, winning the 2021 World Triathlon Cup in Tongyeong, South Korea. In 2022, Abdelmoula also won the African Triathlon Championship in Agadir and secured a bronze medal at the World Triathlon Championship Series in Hamburg.
