Morocco and Ghana have signed a visa exemption agreement for travelers from both countries. This agreement will soon be sent to the Moroccan and Ghanaian parliaments for ratification, according to Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana's Minister of Foreign Affairs. The announcement was made on Monday following a meeting between Ghana's foreign minister and Moroccan Ambassador to Ghana, Imane Ouaadil. The two sides also discussed strengthening cooperation in the agri-food, tourism, and security sectors. They also agreed to improve bilateral academic relations, with Morocco increasing the number of scholarships for Ghanaian students from 90 to 180 starting this year. She has assured that Ghanaians and all Africans living in Morocco are safe contrary to the widely circulated videos on social media falsely claiming that some 700 Africans are being massacred». This rapprochement follows Ghana's notification to the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs in January, informing them of the suspension of its relations with the «Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR)». This position was shared by Ibrahim Boughali, President of the House of Representatives in Accra. Ablakwa also clarified that the Moroccan ambassador confirmed the safety of Ghanaian nationals and other Africans living in Morocco, addressing the spread of misleading videos. He stated that the video in question referred to an old incident at the border on June 24, 2022, which resulted in the tragic deaths of 23 people near the Melilla-Nador fence. The Ghanaian minister emphasized that no Ghanaian victims were involved in that incident.
